Cabrera leads Tribe past Orioles

Baseball Betting Lines

08/12/2008 - Cleveland, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Asdrubal Cabrera went 3-for-4, scored twice, and drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as the Cleveland Indians came back to edge the Baltimore Orioles, 7-5, in the second of a four-game set.

Cabrera's RBI single cued a two-run eighth inning for the Indians, and made a winner of Rafael Perez (2-2), who gave up two hits but no runs in 1 2/3 innings. Jeremy Sowers started for Cleveland and allowed four runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Ben Francisco and Franklin Gutierrez each had two hits and an RBI for the Indians, who won their fifth straight on the day they subtracted another key component of last year's run to the AL Central crown.

The Indians traded starting pitcher Paul Byrd to the Red Sox on Tuesday for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Byrd joined CC Sabathia and Casey Blake as Indians who have been dealt away during this disappointing campaign.

Jim Johnson (2-4) gave up two runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings to take the loss for the Orioles. Garrett Olson surrendered five runs -- four earned -- on nine hits in six frames, with six strikeouts and two walks for Baltimore.

Nick Markakis went 2-for-3, drove in two runs, and scored for the Orioles, who have dropped three straight.

The Orioles scored twice in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5, but Cabrera and the Indians pushed back in front in the eighth. Pinch-hitter Shin-Soo Choo was beaned by Johnson, and Andy Marte bunted him over to second. Cabrera came through with a single to center, scoring Choo, and Cabrera moved to second on the throw to the plate.

The Cleveland shortstop eventually scored on a single by Francisco to left, giving the Indians a two-run pad. Jensen Lewis made it stand up in the ninth, as he fanned two in a 1-2-3 inning to pick up his second save of the season.

The O's plated two runs in the first, on an RBI single by Melvin Mora and an Aubrey Huff sacrifice fly, but Cleveland answered with four in the home half. Jhonny Peralta, Ryan Garko, Gutierrez, and Marte each had RBI singles as the Indians took a 4-2 edge.

An error by Mora allowed an Indians run to score in the fourth, but Markakis' sac fly in the fifth cut the deficit to 5-3.

Game Notes

Huff went 0-for-3, ending his 19-game hitting streak...Brian Roberts went 1- for-3 with an RBI and a run, pushing his hitting streak to 14 games...The five-game winning streak for the Indians equals a season-long...The Tribe left 10 runners on base.

Will Ohio State continue to run the table in College Football Week Four betting odds?
MySportsbook.com favors Buckeyes, Fighting Irish and Golden Bears in this weekend's big games.

NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 21 - My Sportsbook NCAA football fans: things are beginning to get really interesting on college football's national stage. Following last weekend's "Separation Saturday", which included five teams ranked in the top 15 dropping games, the BCS Championship picture is beginning to take shape - with Ohio State leading the charge. And, according to odds makers at MySportsbook.com, the number-one-ranked Buckeyes will continue their winning ways this weekend.

Revenge will be the name of the game in Columbus this Saturday, as Ohio State looks to even the score following last season's loss to Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions. Although Penn State are listed as 16.5 point underdogs, they are 11-10 all-time versus the Buckeyes. Paterno and the Lions, however, will have to shut down Heisman Trophy favorite Troy Smith who has thrown for 769 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

Speaking of revenge, Notre Dame will be out for some against Michigan State, following last year's 44 - 41 overtime loss to the Spartans in South Bend. The thirteenth-ranked Irish, listed as a 3-point favorite, will also be looking to avenge last Saturday's thrashing from the Michigan Wolverines. The Spartans, meanwhile, have won seven of the last nine match-ups against Notre Dame and are coming off an impressive 38-23 victory over Pittsburgh.

Out west, 22nd-ranked Arizona State will be battling for their first victory over 21st-ranked California since 2000. Although the Golden Bears are listed as 7.5-point favorites, the Sun Devils are 3-0, lead the nation in sacks with 18 and possess the Pac-10's leading passer in sophomore quarterback Rudy Carpenter.
