Zobrist, Rays edge A's
Baseball Betting Lines
08/14/2008 -
Oakland, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ben Zobrist hit the go-ahead RBI double in the
seventh and the Rays took the second test of their three-game series against
the Athletics, 3-2, at McAfee Coliseum.
Andy Sonnanstine (12-6) threw his third consecutive quality start, throwing
six innings on just two runs and six hits. He struck out six and walked one
in the win. The Rays bullpen pitched three scoreless innings, including Troy
Percival's 27th save of the season.
Eric Hinske finished the day 3-for-3 with a homer while Carlos Pena added
another home run to give Tampa Bay its sixth win in eight games.
Justin Duchscherer (10-8) lost his third straight decision, and the team lost
its sixth consecutive game in which the righty has pitched. He finished the
day after 6 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out a
career-high eight and walking one.
Eric Patterson knocked in two runs after being called up earlier Wednesday
from Triple-A Sacramento. Mark Ellis and Bobby Crosby added two hits apiece in
the loss, Oakland's 13th in 15 games.
The Rays took the lead in the seventh. Hinske led off with a single, and two
batters later Gabe Gross reached on an infield single, moving the runner to
second.
Justin Ruggiano pinch-ran for Hinske, and Jerry Blevins came on in relief of
Duchscherer. Zobrist was the first batter Blevins faced, and he laced a double
down the left field line, scoring Ruggiano and giving Tampa Bay a 3-2 lead.
Jack Cust led off the Oakland ninth by drawing a walk. Rajai Davis came in to
pinch-run and was quickly erased as he was gunned down attempting to steal
second. Crosby popped out and after Emil Brown walked, Kurt Suzuki popped out
to second to end the game.
Tampa Bay added home runs in both the first and second innings for an early
2-0 lead. Pena's 22nd homer of the year with two outs in the first accounted
for the first run, and Hinske's 17th of the season to lead off the second
provided the second run.
The Athletics came back to tie the game in the fifth. Crosby led off with a
double, and Jack Hannahan singled to put runners on the corners. After
Suzuki walked to load the bases, Patterson singled down the right field line
to score Crosby and Hannahan, tying the game.

Huskers' Lucky hospitalized for undisclosed reason
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska running back Marlon Lucky was hospitalized Monday for undisclosed reasons after Lincoln police responded to a call at his residence.
The Nebraska athletic department said in a release Monday that Lucky was admitted Sunday night.
MySportsbook.com has the Cornhuskers listed at +2500 to win the 2008 BCS National Championship odds.
A nursing supervisor at the hospital said all questions about Lucky were being referred to the athletic department. The athletic department said there would be no further comment from the department or Lucky's family.
A Lincoln Police spokesman said officers responded to a call at Lucky's residence 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The spokesman said he didn't know Lucky's condition at the time he was taken to the hospital.
Lucky, from North Hollywood, Calif., started six games last season as a sophomore and was the team's second-leading rusher, with 728 yards and six touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 383 yards. He averaged 19.1 yards on eight kickoff returns.

2007 Academy Award Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value
If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture. Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).
For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot. The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.
TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.
"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,' it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."
"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.
Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash. Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
